Advance Paragliding Course APPI 3

Curso Avanzado de Parapente APPI 3: Descripción general del curso

The APPI 3 Advanced Paragliding Course is the culmination of your paragliding learning. To carry it you had to have successfully completed the previous two courses. Read more about the APPI 1 Basic Course and APPI2 Intermediate Course.

Altitude Flight Classes

You can do the altitude flights in Pachacamac to obtain the “Alpin Pilot” specialty (mountain pilot) and in Miraflores to obtain the “Soaring Pilot” specialty (coastal pilot). On average, you will make 20 flights in these two flight zones.

Ground Sailing Control Classes

In the sailing control classes, you will reinforce the knowledge already learned. With these classes, you will master the control of sail on land, which will allow you to take off without help in any wind condition safely.

Price of the Advanced Course: 2000 soles

If you buy the flight equipment, we give you a discount of 1500 soles, so the Advanced Course would cost you only 500 soles. A second-hand paraglider costs between 800 and 1500 dollars, and a new paraglider approximately 2500 dollars.

Advanced Paragliding Course APPI 3: Curriculum

This curriculum may vary according to the weather conditions and the specific needs and abilities of each student, however it reflects very well the objectives and methodology of the course:

First class: We do a minimum of 3 tandem flights in Miraflores so that the student can become familiar with the flight on the coast, and above all so that they learn the approach and landing well. Then the student makes his first flight alone in Miraflores

Second class: The student will make 1 to 2 flights in Miraflores, guided by radio by the instructor. At this stage, flights are usually short, 5 to 10 minutes long, since what is prioritized is learning to land

Third class: Reinforcement class of sail control on land. In order for a student to be completely independent at the Paraport, he must inflate and control his paraglider perfectly. In this class, we will teach you more advanced techniques in sail control.

Fourth Class: Depending on the wind conditions and the faculties of the students, we will make several flights at the Paraport, preferably from 3 to 5 flights. In this way, the student gains more experience and confidence in landing and in the flight with air traffic.

Fifth Class: Optionally, we intersperse classes between the Paraport and Pachacamac (mountains). Thus, the student learns to fly both in dynamic conditions (windy flight) and in complete conditions (mountain flight).

Sixth Class: More sail control on land. In this class, the student already has to demonstrate skill inflating his paraglider, performing a controlled takeoff without assistance.

Seventh Class: More flight at the Paraport, each time with less assistance and guided by the instructor

Eighth Class: In this class, we opted to take longer flights at the Paraport. Flights from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Ninth Class: If the student has demonstrated sufficient ability, he is allowed to fly completely alone, without any instructor’s guidance via radio. Of course, the student still flies with the radio for any emergency, but the instructor will avoid giving directions.

Tenth Class: Last flights of the course, without the instructor’s guide, until completing a total of 20 flights.

Additional classes: It is completely normal for a student to need more assistance after the first 10 classes. For this reason, we provide our students with all the necessary assistance, guidance and supervision until they feel completely fit to fly alone. This extra instruction has no additional cost, it is completely free. In this way, we guarantee that our graduated students are truly independent paragliding pilots, that they follow good practices in safe flight.
