Many Peruvian pilots have the benefit of having the APVL license, which enjoys some recognition internationally, is valid by the FAI, and advanced ratings are relatively easy to obtain. However, they can also process the APPI license, which also has certain advantages.
Advantages of the Appi license
- The APPI license is widely recognized worldwide and is valid if you are going to fly as a tourist
- In many countries the APPI license is recognized as the national license, therefore one can fly with it as a resident of that country, and even carry out commercial activities such as instruction and two-seater rides.
- Once the requirements for the IPPI 4 certification have been obtained, it is only necessary for an instructor to validate it and that FAI level is automatically obtained. It is not necessary to purchase the IPPI Card separately.
- The procedure to obtain the license is quite simple. You just have to pay online and then print the license or have it on your cell phone. They also give you the option of a physical plastic license that is sent to your address, which costs around 7 euros.
- For residents of Europe, there is the option of paying third-party insurance with coverage of more than one million euros, at a fairly affordable price.
- In addition to the normal levels: Appi 1, Appi 2, Appi 3, Ippi 4 and Appi 5, there are many other ratings such as “Cross Country” and SIV, which greatly enrich the pilot experience, and therefore the safety of your flight.
- It has a wide list of professionals, such as instructors, all over the world who are willing to contribute to the training of a student pilot or a visiting pilot.

The flying here is intermediate to advanced mountain flying, with easy access to the main sites. There is a large amount of hike-and-fly or vol-biv adventure on offer, and many areas are still unexplored by paraglider. A car or van is recommended to get around, but getting rides with local pilots or schools and tandem operators is also possible. Pilots need a recognised international license and NZHGPA visitor membership to fly legally in NZ.
